Guest Teachers’ Struggle

Government is making false promises since past 3 years

On 21 December the guest teachers who had gathered at Chatrasaal stadium to press for their demands were attacked with water cannon and police was used to break their strike demonstration. The occasion was the dialogue initiated by the Delhi state government, which had issues a circular calling 11,000 guest teachers.

The guest teachers had come to this dialogue with an expectation that the government will make an announcement regarding fulfilling all their demands, as per its promise. But when the guest teachers saw that the government was only listing its own achievements instead of addressing their problem, they lost their patience. When the guest teachers asked for a date by when the government will fix their salary, the government representative responded that the file is with the lieutenant governor. Hearing this, all the guest teachers became upset and came outside the stadium and started raising slogans.

It may be recalled that over 15000 guest teachers in Dehi have been struggling for being made permanent, and other demands like getting a fixed pay, maternity leave for women teachers, and many more. But successive government of Delhi have contracted the guest teachers on a day-to-day basis and not made them permanent. This situation has continued year after year.

Communist Ghadar Party of India fully supports the demands of the guest teachers and condemns the police attack organised by the government.

Working class representatives from all over the country are gathering on 4th September, at a time when a titanic struggle is going on in our country. The struggle is between the majority of toiling and exploited people and a minority of exploiters. It is between the majority whose labour expands wealth and the minority who enjoy the fruits of wealth creation on the basis of their private property and positions of power.
